This policy explains what data the Moddy Discord bot and the moddy.bot website collect, why, and how long it is kept. We collect only what is needed to moderate servers, run the dashboard and handle billing. We do not sell data or use it for advertising.
Messages in moderated servers
Moddy uses Discord’s Message Content intent to read messages in channels it can see, so it can check them against the server’s rules. For each new or edited message, Moddy sends the message text, message and author IDs and timestamps, together with a small amount of recent context (up to 10 earlier messages from the same member in the same channel from the last three minutes, and the last 10 messages in that channel), to our AI provider, TypeSafe, which returns a probability for each rule.
- Message content is never stored in our database. The recent context is kept only in memory and is cleared within minutes or when the bot restarts.
- Messages from bots, webhooks and the server’s logging channel are ignored.
- When a rule matches, Moddy may delete the message or time out the member, post a log in the server’s configured logging channel (including the message text, so moderators can review it), and send the member a direct message explaining which rule applied.
- For statistics we store message, channel and member IDs, the time, the rules that matched and the actions taken, plus hourly counts of checked messages per channel. No message text is included.
Dashboard accounts
When you sign in with Discord, we receive your Discord user ID, username, avatar, email address and the list of servers you are in. We use the server list only to show which servers you can manage, and we check your current permissions with Discord before every read or change. We store your account, session records (including IP address and browser user agent for security) and Discord OAuth tokens, which stay on our servers and are never shown to the browser.
Server settings
For each server we store the rules, logging channel, role and channel selections and other settings that managers save, plus the plan, monthly and daily usage counters and billing status. Moddy support staff can view and edit a server’s rules and settings when helping with support; they cannot see billing details or message content.
Votes and direct messages
When you vote on top.gg, we receive your Discord user ID and the vote, and use it to keep moderation running for a Free server. Vote records are deleted after seven days. To count how many people Moddy has messaged, we store a one-way hash of the recipient’s ID, not the ID itself.
Payments
Payments are handled by Creem, our merchant of record. We never see or store card details. We store the Creem customer and subscription IDs, status and paid-until date so we can apply the right plan to the right server.
Website demo
The message demo on the homepage sends the text you enter to TypeSafe for a one-off check and uses Cloudflare Turnstile to prevent abuse. Demo text is not stored; we keep only usage counters keyed by hashed client identifiers, which expire automatically.
Service providers
- Discord, which the bot and sign-in are built on.
- TypeSafe, which evaluates messages against rules.
- Creem, which processes subscriptions and payments.
- top.gg, which handles votes.
- Cloudflare, which carries website traffic and provides Turnstile.
These providers process data only to provide their service to Moddy and under their own privacy policies.
Retention and deletion
Account, server settings and statistics data are kept while you use Moddy. A server owner or manager can remove Moddy from a server at any time, and anyone can ask us to delete or export the data we hold about them, or about a server they manage, through our Discord support server. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct or object to the processing of your data.
Security
Data is stored in PostgreSQL on servers we operate, which are not exposed to the public internet except through the website. Credentials and tokens are kept server-side, and we never log tokens or full message content.
Children
Moddy is meant for people who meet Discord’s minimum age requirement in their country.
Changes
We will update this page when our data practices change; the date at the top shows the latest version. See also our Terms of Service.
